Obituary for Mary Ruth Bradley

Mary Ruth Bradley
Mary Ruth Bradley passed away April 23, 2018. Mary Ruth was born September 24, 1921 at the farm home of her parents in Rushville, Missouri. Her parents were Zeanesther Colman Richardson and Dewey Wycliffe Richardson. Mary Ruth grew up on farms her parents owned and she attended County Schools and Weston High School, graduating May, 1933. Mary Ruth had shared stories of riding her horse to school, joining her friends on their ride to school, tending their horses at lunch break… then riding back home at the end of the school day. As Mary Ruth’s life progressed she became known as ‘Ms B’ and ‘Granner’, to friends and family.
On March 8, 1941 Mary Ruth was united in marriage to Charles Edward Bradley. The newlyweds lived a few years on one of Mary’s family farm homes, then moved to the home they have lived in over 70 years. Mary Ruth and Charles have two daughters, Teresa [Ken] Quest, Raymore, and Jo Bradley Norris, Weston. Their grandchildren are Bradley [Jill] William Quest, Matthew Charles Quest, Samantha [Christopher] Kinslow, and Alexia [Nathan Dulle] Norris. Mary Ruth and Charles were avid supporters in their grandchildrens’ activities…including football, wrestling, volleyball, basketball, track, and other programs. Mary Ruth and Charles’s great grandchildren are Madyson Quest, Jacob Quest, Wyatt Quest, Matthew Quest, Kaydrin Quest, Charlie Kinslow, Alexander Kinslow, Josephine Dulle, and Margaret Dulle.
Mary Ruth was the ideal farm wife so her husband would say. When tobacco and hay workers were at the farm Mary Ruth would prepare large noon meals for all…taking most of her day to cook, clean, and get ready for the next big meal. She often made lemonade and sweets to take to the fields for the workers to enjoy and take a break from the farm work. Mary Ruth also worked outside the home after her daughters were in school. She worked for the ASCS government office in Platte City, then spent several years as the secretary to the West Platte High School principal. Many of the students quickly learned that ‘Ms B’ was a friend to go to when they were in need of help. Mary Ruth’s last work was at the Hull Mill Lumber Company, when it was located on Washington Street in Weston.
Mary Ruth and Charles enjoyed their friends and often were together for square dancing, traveling, visiting at friends’ homes, and going to downtown Weston on Saturday night. Mary Ruth’s church life was very important to her. She was baptized March 20, 1938 at Weston Christian Church, a church her parents and many Richardson families were members of. Mary Ruth was active in the Women’s Fellowship through the years. She and Charles enjoyed helping out in many activities of the church. Mary Ruth was a member of the Weston Historical Museum and served on the Board of Directors for many years. She and Charles were also active in the Platte County Historical Society and Farm Bureau.
Mary’s last few years were more difficult for her...but she was positive about life and was supported by her family, friends, and faithful loving husband of 76 years, Charles.
Mary Ruth always had cat and dog companions in her home and she supported many rescue groups. It would be appreciated that any memorials be directed to KC Pet Project or Wayside Waifs.
