Maxine White Davis
Maxine White Davis, 90, of Platte City, MO, passed away Sunday, September 30, 2012 at the Hillview Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Platte City. A visitation will be held 6:30 – 8:00 p.m., Thursday, October 4, 2012 at Rollins Funeral Home in Platte City. Memorial Services will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, October 5, at the funeral home. The family suggests contributions be given to the Alzheimer’s Association, or the Platte County Historical Society. Maxine was born March 27, 1922 in Platte County, MO to James D. and Blanch (Reynolds) White. She has been an active member of the Platte City community since early childhood, when, in 1938, she represented Platte County in the National 4-H Congress in Chicago, later serving two terms on the council at the University of Missouri Extension Center in Platte City. Maxine served as a 4-H judge for the Platte County Fairs, for several years. She was an active member of the Platte County Historical Society, where she served past terms as president, and assistant treasurer. Maxine served on the board of directors for the Ben Ferrel Museum, spending countless hours beautifying the flower gardens. She was very dedicated to physical fitness and was one of the original organizers of the first Platte City Volkswalk. Maxine was involved in countless charity events, raising money for multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophy, the head injury association, the Lions Journey for Sight and various walks which covered 19 different states. She served as board member for the Platte City Senior Housing Authority. Maxine was a lifetime member of the First Baptist Church of Platte City, where she taught Sunday school for over 35 years. For these services, and many others, Maxine was the 1997 recipient of the Truman Glenn Award; and in later years, was honored with the Platte Countian of the Year award. She was a graduate of the Camden Point, MO high school. Maxine worked for many years as a tax accountant for several firms in the Platte City area. She married Ralph “Judson” Davis on March 22, 1947 in Kansas City, MO, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by: her parents; a brother James; and a sister Martha Wilson. Maxine is survived by: her sons Glen A. Davis of Asheville, NC, and Neil W. (Terry) Davis of Platte City; her brother Herman (Jeaneé) White of Platte City; her sisters Naomi W. Johnson of Edgerton, MO, and Deanna Boydston of Blue Springs, MO; 2 granddaughters Sarah Davis (Jeremy) Duncan, and Meghan Trumble Davis; and several nieces and nephews.
