Catherine Mary Donaghy, 81 passed away Sunday, October 12, 2014 at Wexford Place of Kansas City, MO. A visitation will be held 5:00 – 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at Rollins Funeral Home in Platte City, MO. A graveside funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, October 16 at the Platte City Cemetery. The family suggests contributions be given to: Paralyzed Veterans of America. Catherine was born February 19, 1933 in New York, NY to John and Katherine (Lyons) Mahon. She was raised in New York City, where she was a 1952 graduate of St. Luke’s High School; and 1956 graduate of St. John’s College. Catherine married John Francis Donaghy on July 11, 1959 in New York, NY. She later lived in the Sudbury, MA, Anaheim, CA and Kansas City, MO areas. Catherine spent her working life as an elementary school teacher and homemaker. She was a member of St. Therese Catholic Church of K.C., MO; and greatly enjoyed volunteer work for the church. Catherine also enjoyed reading, and loved to spend time with her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband John. Catherine is survived by: her son John (Susie) Donaghy of Modesto, CA; her daughter Carol Gates of Platte City, MO; her sister Elizabeth Neuner of San Ramon, CA; 6 grandchildren Michael, Sarah, Patrick, Adam, Luke, and Gretchen; and one great grandson Hayden.
