Obituary for Betty Lou Elgin

Betty Lou Elgin, 87, of Platte City, MO, passed away Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at the North Care Hospice House in North Kansas City, MO. Betty was born December 5, 1929 in Platte City, MO to Elbert Clay and Irene (Pulem) Elgin. She earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Central Missouri State University, and then went on to earn a specialist degree from the University of Indiana in Bloomington and her Doctorate in Education from the University of Missouri. Betty taught health, physical education, and recreation at Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg for over 30 years. She was a member of the Platte City Christian Church and an avid card player. Betty was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Study Club, and the Platte County Historical Society. She enjoyed doing needlework and cross-stitch, winning many ribbons from her entries in the county fair. Betty was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by cousins Dick (Becky) Elgin of St. James, MO, Robert Elgin of Norcross, GA, Jane (Hugh) Elgin Bartlett of Rolla, MO, Jim (Denise) Wren of Granberry, TX, Dora Wren of Woodland Hills, CA, Bonnie (George) Pulem Taubel of Tulsa, OK, Carolyn (Cliff) Pulem Tuttle of Kerrville, TX, Gayle Pulem of Platte City, MO, and many, many friends. A visitation will be held 1:00 – 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 22, 2017 at Rollins Funeral Home in Platte City. Graveside services and interment will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Platte City Cemetery. The family suggests, in lieu of flowers, that contributions be given to the Platte County Historical Society or North Care Hospice.
