Obituary for Joy S. George

JOY S. GEORGE
Joy S. George passed away Thursday, April 14, 2016, as a result of an automobile accident, in Platte City, MO. She was born November 23, 1936 in Louisville, KY to Rev. Robert Ray Stone and Harriet (Hallie) Elizabeth Loman Stone. She grew up in Farmington, MO, graduated from Carthage, MO High School, Southwest Baptist College in Bolivar, MO, and William Jewell College in Liberty, MO. Joy received a Master’s in Social Work degree from the University of Kansas, was a long time member of the National Association of Social Workers and licensed in Kansas and Missouri. She retired from the Veterans Administration in Leavenworth in 1999. In recent years she was coordinator of the Equipping Caregivers group, sponsored by the Shepherd’s Centers. She was married to John D. George on August 5, 1961 and blessed with a marriage of 45 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Platte City, where she taught Sunday school over 40 years, and was involved in discipleship and mentoring ministries. Joy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and 2 brothers, twin Robert R. Stone, Jr., and David Owen Stone. She is survived by 2 children Jeffrey Ray George of Platte City, and Janine M. Ringwald of O’Fallon, MO; 3 grandchildren Megan Ringwald, Jonathan George, and Kristen Lyles; and her nephew Robert Ray Stone III of Nashville, TN. A visitation will be held 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Monday, April 18, at the First Baptist Church of Platte City. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 19 at the church.
