Obituary for Michael R. Hancock

Michael R. Hancock, 73, passed away Monday, January 9, 2017 at his home in Platte City, MO. Michael was born October 12, 1943 in Ottumwa, IA to Albert William Hancock, Sr. and Marion Mae (Passwater) Hancock. He was a 1961 graduate of Cardinal Community High School in Eldon, IA. Michael then attended technical school in Des Moines, IA, where he earned a degree in computer programming. He married Joyce M. Chase on November 21, 1964 in Eldon, IA. In 1968, Michael began working as a computer programmer for Trans World Airlines and retired in 2002 after 34 years of service. He lived in Kansas City, KS until moving to Platte City, MO where he’s lived since 1968. Michael played an active role in his community as a member of the Masonic Lodge; and brought great joy to the area teenagers during the late ‘80’s by organizing and sponsoring Teen Scene, at the Platte City Community Center. He was preceded in death by: his parents; a son Mark William Hancock; a sister in law Patty Hancock; and an infant brother Richard Hancock. Michael is survived by: his wife Joyce of the home; his daughter Nissa (James) True of Platte City; his brother Albert William Hancock, Sr.; his sisters Patricia (Tom) Brimeyer, and Linda (Dave) Shoop; his grandchildren Trisha Michelle Hancock, MacKenzie Fay True, and Calvin Michael True; and numerous in laws, nieces, nephews, and beloved friends. A visitation will be held 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Friday, January 13, at Rollins Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 14, at the funeral home. Interment will follow at the Platte City Cemetery. The family suggests contributions be given to Northland Hospice.
