Robert “Bobby” Hughes, 90 passed away Sunday, November 13, 2016 at his home in Weston, MO. Following cremation, a private family graveside service will be held at Leavenworth National Cemetery, Leavenworth, KS, at a later date. The family suggests contributions be given to the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Bobby was born March 6, 1926 in Kansas to Roy Ellis and Wilhelmina (Swearingen) Hughes. Having served his country during World War II as a member of the U.S. Navy, he worked on the Saratoga as an orderly for Admiral Turner during the flag raising on Iwa Jima, earning the rank of Seaman First Class. Bobby spent most of his working life as a typewriter repairman, while living in California. He had a passion for music, and had a tremendous collection of recordings. He was also a talented musician who played and taught guitar; and was friends with many other talented musicians throughout the years. Bobby is survived by his cousins David (Tatiana) Johnson, Robert Johnson, Ted (Reona) Johnson, and Royce Searcy; and his friend Mike Bryant.
