Obituary for Cleo Eugene Hooper

Cleo Eugene Hooper, 91, of Kansas City, MO, passed away Thursday, November 17, 2016 at North Kansas City Hospital.
Cleo was born July 20, 1925 in Winifred, KS to William Bruce and Maude Fannie (Nelms) Hooper. He served as a United States Army Master Sergeant in the Pacific Theater during World War II. Cleo was a retired mechanical engineer and V.P. of Sales for Midwest Steel Corporation of K.C., MO. He had a passion for farming, and raised row crops and hogs on his farms in Kansas and Missouri. He was also a skilled craftsman, handyman and mechanic who personally built and maintained the home where he lived for the past 58 years. He was a dedicated member of Platte Woods United Methodist Church who enjoyed serving in lay leadership roles and being part of the "Around 30" Sunday school class over the years. A licensed HAM radio operator (WDOCDA), Cleo was a 32nd Degree Mason, Lodge #91 A.F. & A.M. of Marysville, KS and a 50 year member of American Legion Post 181, Frankfort, KS. His parents, his first wife Adelaide Samuelson Hooper and brothers Donald and Dale Hooper, precede him in death.
Cleo is survived by his wife Lois, of the home; daughters Cathryn (Robert) Fogel of Manchester, CT and Jeanne Bradford of Cupertino, CA; stepdaughter Janet Lowry of Firebaugh, CA; stepson James Foster of Albany, MO; 3 granddaughters Maurissa Fogel, Whitney Bradford, and Susan Lee Poortinga; 3 great grandchildren; and 12 nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 10 am on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at the Platte Woods United Methodist Church, 7310 NW Prairie View Road, KCMO. Visitation will begin at 9 am prior to the service. Private burial, with military honors, will follow at 2:30 p.m. in Frankfort, KS. In lieu of flowers the family suggests a memorial contribution to The American Diabetes Association.
