John P. Mason, 81, passed away Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at his home in Platte City, MO. John was born December 4, 1935 in DeKalb, MO to Claude W. and Agnes (Gardner) Mason. He served his country as a member of the U.S. Army. John spent his working life raising tobacco, and was a past co-owner of the New Deal Tobacco Warehouse in Weston, MO. He was preceded in death by: his parents; his longtime companion Catherine Logan; his daughter Mary Sue Gaither; and his brothers June and Jack Mason. John is survived by: his daughter Barbara Jean Smith, and son Donald Mason and his partner Doug, all of K.C., MO; 2 grandsons Charles (Danetta) Hill, III of Platte City, and John Derek Gaither of Troy, KS; 2 great grandsons Alex Moody, and Harlee Miller; and his siblings Marcella McGuinnes, Billy Mason, Marion Mason, and Patty Goodpaster. A visitation will be held 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 15, 2017; followed by an 11:00 a.m. funeral service at Vaughn Funeral Home in Weston. Interment with military honors will follow at the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Weston. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be given to the charity of one’s choice.
