Obituary for Floyd Ray Dennis

Floyd R. Dennis, 81, of Platte City, MO passed away Sunday, October 25, 2015 at the NorthCare Hospice House in North K.C., MO. A visitation will be held 6:00 – 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at Rollins Funeral Home in Platte City. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 29 at the funeral home. Interment with military honors will follow at the Platte City Cemetery. The family suggests contributions be given to the American Cancer Society. Floyd was born August 4, 1934 in New Market, MO to Cecil and Mary Dennis. He also later lived in Tacoma, WA before moving to Platte City in 1959. Floyd served his country as a member of the U.S. Army; having been stationed in Alaska. He married Deloris Sue Melvin on September 30, 1955 in Platte City. He was primarily a truck driver throughout his working life; and drove for 23 years for the 7up Bottling Company in North Kansas City, MO. He also drove a school bus for the Platte County R-III School District for many years. Floyd was of the Baptist Faith, and was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. He was preceded in death by: his parents; his wife Deloris; a son Bruce R. Dennis; and a couple of brothers. Floyd is survived by: 2 sons Michael W. Dennis of K.C., MO, and Kenneth E. Dennis of Platte City; several brothers and sisters; 3 grandchildren Shadron, Andrew, and Christopher Dennis; daughter-in-law Rebecca Carter and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
