Wilma Maxine Snyder was born October 19, 1930 on a farm in Mercer County to Albert and Alma Snyder, the second of two children. After graduating from Ravanna High School, she attended Northwest Missouri State University, Maryville, where she obtained her Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education in 1955 and her Master's of Science Degree in Elementary Education in 1975. She began her teaching career in a one-room schoolhouse in Mercer County. Two years later she began teaching the fifth grade in Princeton, MO. After her marriage three years later to Dean McClurg, they moved to Kansas City. In 1954 they moved to Weston where she taught sixth grade and fourth grade. In 1964 she organized the private kindergarten, which continued to meet in the Baptist Church for three years. When it became mandatory by the state to be a part of the public school system, she became one of Weston's Kindergarten teachers for the next twenty-eight years, retiring in 1995. She then became the Pre-K teacher for the First Baptist Church Daycare. Since coming to Weston, she has been an active member of the First Baptist Church as a children's Sunday School teacher and leader of children's groups as well as the Women's Missionary Society. She has also been an active member of the Weston Garden Club and American Legion Auxiliary, Post 501 serving as secretary for both groups and Girls' State Chairman for the Auxiliary. She served as secretary for the two Junior Bowling Leagues during the seven years she assisted her husband as owners of Dean's Pro Bowl.
