Obituary for Walter Curtis "Curt" Niederee Dr.

DR. WALTER CURTIS “CURT” NIEDEREE
Dr. Walter Curtis “Curt” Niederee, 85, of Weston, MO passed away Monday, February 22, 2016 at St. Luke’s Hospital, in Kansas City, MO. A visitation will be held 5:30 – 7:00 p.m., Thursday, February 25, at Vaughn Funeral Home in Weston, MO. A Funeral Mass will be held 10:30 a.m., Friday, February 26, at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church of Weston. A second visitation will be held 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. Friday evening, at the Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend, KS; with a private family interment on Saturday, February 27, at the Larned Cemetery, in Larned, KS. The family suggests contributions be given to: The Holy Trinity Catholic Church, or The Quentin Hayworth Foundation for the Boy Scouts of Troop 249. Curt was born November 23, 1930 in Larned, KS to Walter Louis and Lois Jane (Lyon) Niederee. He was a 1948 graduate of the Larned High School; began undergraduate studies at Kansas University; and graduated from medical school at Creighton University, in 1956. Curt practiced surgery and medicine in Great Bend, KS for 29 years; moving to Chicago in 1989; and finally to Weston in 1995. He married Carol Jean Gabbert on December 24, 1997 in Weston; and was a devoted member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Weston, where he was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and, in 2010, was the recipient of the Bishop’s Recognition Award, for his work in the diocese. Curt was a member of the American College of Surgeons, the AMA, and served on The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations. He was an avid pilot, and outdoorsman, who enjoyed spending time with his sons hunting. Curt also served in the past as an Assistant Scout Master for Troop 249 of Weston. He was preceded in death by: his parents; his wife Carol; his sister Jan Joseph; and a grandson Heath Niederee. Curt is survived by: his first wife Joyce Niederee of Great Bend, KS; 5 sons Michael (Laura) of Winfield, KS, David (Cindy) of Derby, KS, William (Robin) of Great Bend, Thomas (Laurie) of Salt Lake City, UT, and Mark (Myra) Niederee of Wichita, KS; 4 step children Valija (Dennis) Hirter of St. Joseph, MO, Allison (Pat) Roberts of Weston, Andrea (Stuart) Bradley of Warrensburg, MO, and Gene Winter of Warrensburg; 21 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren.
