Obituary for Edward J. "Ed" Chomicki

Edward J. “Ed” Chomicki, 83, of Platte City, MO, passed away Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at the NorthCare Hospice House in North Kansas City, MO. Ed was born November 19, 1934 in Cicero, IL to Adam and Michaline (Popiolek) Chomicki. He was a member of 12 Apostles Catholic Church in Platte City, MO, and a member of the Knights of Columbus since 1952. He attended Lewis College in Joliet, IL, where he received his A&P license. He began his career as an airline mechanic with Ozark Airlines in St. Louis, MO. His work took him to New York, Chicago, and ultimately Kansas City, where he retired as a maintenance coordinator with TWA after 43 years. Ed married Mary Lou Slown in Pontiac, IL on November 1, 1974. He enjoyed his work, gardening and most of all spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by: his parents; and his sister Sophie (Harry) Schultz. Ed is survived by: his wife, Mary Lou (Slown) Chomicki; son Brian Chomicki of IL; daughters Linda Chomicki of FL, Karen Stoops of FL, and Paula (Steve) Umbro of OK; grandchildren Brock and Kylie Stoops, and Steven (Samantha) Umbro, Adam Umbro, and Drew Umbro; great grandchildren Madison and Penelope Umbro; and numerous extended family and friends. A memorial mass will be held Friday, June 1 at 11 am at 12 Apostles Catholic Church in Platte City, MO. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
