Obituary for Jerry Lee McQuitty

Lt. Col. Jerry L. McQuitty, age 85 of Montgomery, AL, passed away on Wednesday, July 25, 2018. Jerry was born to the late Joel Morris and Anna Lucille McQuitty in Missouri on October 5, 1932. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years, Rosemary Riley McQuitty and his parents. Jerry is survived by his brother, Charlie McQuitty (Gaby); his five children, Dana Webster (Rick), Terry McQuitty, Mike McQuitty (Beth), Carol Rollin (Andy), and Laurie Young (Charlie); nine grandchildren, four great grandchildren; and his special caretaker Denita “Nina” Colvin. Jerry grew up on a farm in Missouri where he cultivated his love for horticulture. He attended the University of Missouri obtaining a degree in agriculture where he met Rosemary on a blind date. Jerry proudly served in the U.S. Air Force retiring after 27 years as Lieutenant Colonel. He served in the Vietnam War as a pilot and was a Bronze Star recipient. During his training for Vietnam, Jerry attended George Washington University earning his masters in business. After retiring at Maxwell Air Force Base, Jerry obtained an additional degree in horticulture from Trenholm University and began working at Southern Homes. Jerry was a devoted member and usher at St. Bede Catholic Church. During his free time he enjoyed gardening, fishing, flying planes, but during football season he was always cheering on his Auburn Tigers. The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 29, 2018 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, July 30, 2018 at St. Bede Catholic Church beginning at 11:00 am with a Rosary at 10:30 am. Graveside service will be held on Thursday, August 2, 2018 at 10:00 am at Platte City Cemetery in Platte City, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Bede’s Groundskeeping Fund.
