Obituary

Larry O. Whitt, 74, passed away Friday, December 18, 2020 at his home in Weston after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. Larry was born July 2, 1946 in Gallatin, MO to Herbert Olin and Cecilia Christine (Smith) Whitt. He was a 1964 graduate of the Gallatin High School and later attended Platte Business School and studied graduate courses through MO Western State College. Larry served as a member of the U.S. Army, having worked at Fort Leavenworth, KS where he ran a projector for top secret training films, before serving in Vietnam. He served as a mortar platoon leader in the 25th Infantry Tropic Lightning Platoon and earned his Sharpshooter Certificate and a Bronze Star. Larry married Sharon Bernice Scott on April 4, 1966 at the Weston Christian Church. He retired from the Bank of Weston after 43 years of service as Senior Vice President and Senior Loan Officer. Larry was a member of the Weston Christian Church and actively served in the Masonic Lodge #53 A.F. & A.M. for 30 years as Treasurer for 20 years, Jr. Warden, Sr. Warden, and Master Mason. He was the recipient of the Schaback Award, and served in the American Legion for 50 years, where he was Commander, Treasurer Adjutant, and provided Military Burial Honors for many years. Larry was also very involved as an original member of the Weston Jaycees; having begun the annual Weston Fireworks Displays, which he ran for 25 years and maintained his involvement throughout his life. As a result, he was awarded the Weston Jaycees highest honor, the Raymond Dydell Award. Larry also served on the Laurel Hill Cemetery Board; and coached boy’s little league baseball from t-ball through high school ages. As an avid outdoorsman, he was a hunter’s safety instructor, avid hunter, fisherman, and golfer. Also, along with his love for the outdoors, Larry raised tobacco crops in Weston and was an accomplished gardener. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Betty Bashford. Larry is survived by: his wife Sharon; his children Shelly (Jeff) Caudron of Wheaton, MO, and Steven (Stefanie) Whitt of Weston; his grandchildren Jon Caudron, Lamour and Ty Shirley, and Samantha and Scott Whitt; his great granddaughter Cambria Shirley; his sister Mary (Lee) Campbell of Chula Vista, CA; his brother Don (Nancy) Whitt of K.C., MO; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. A graveside funeral service with military and Masonic honors, will be held 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 23, at the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Weston. Sharon, Shelly, & Steven. We are deeply saddened to learn of your loss of Larry. He will be forever remembered for his commitment and selfless service to our community. Especially the joy he brought our family each Independence Day via the Weston Jaycees fireworks. Glad Larry passed the torch on to Steven. We pray God's peace that passes all understanding to you all. May you take hope and joy in the knowledge of His gift of life everlasting. God bless. Kurt, Kristi, Kayla, & Kole Kisker

Sharon and family, I am very sorry for your loss. I am so glad that I was able to spend a morning with Larry a few weeks ago. We talked about so many things that were great memories. From our time with the Jaycees and the thousands of steaks that Larry fixed for me at Game Hill. It was a great morning that I will remember. Larry was a great friend and I will miss him.
