Jean Francis Smith, 89, of Platte City, MO, passed away Friday, January 15, 2021 at her home. Jean was born on May 4, 1931 in Chicago, IL to Michael and Helen Pokorny. She lived in Chicago until marrying Walter “Jack” Smith on April 18, 1953. They lived various places as he traveled during his time in the US Navy and Air Force, before settling in Platte City in the 1970s. Jean liked to play rummy, and never gave up her love of the Chicago Cubs and Bears. She was loved and will be missed by all. She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother Roger Pokorny. Jean is survived by her husband; son Douglas Smith of Independence, MO; daughter Julie (Rick) Larson of Joplin, MO; son David Smith of St. Louis, MO; 8 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 1 great great granddaughter; brother Richard (Judy) Pokorny; and many nieces nephews, extended family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
