Obituary for Barbara Jean Bryan (Gunn)

Barbara J. Bryan, 93, passed away at her home in Kansas City, MO January 30, 2021, after a lengthy battle with cancer. Barbara was born in Hannibal, MO to Raymond B. and Lela (Longley) Gunn on August 22, 1927. Barbara was a graduate of Central Methodist University in Fayette, MO. She married Wilson S. Bryan on October 26, 1957. Barbara and Wilson made their home in Platte City, MO for over 50 years. Barbara was an avid golfer and member of the Leavenworth Country Club having achieved 3 hole in ones during her golfing years. She enjoyed tennis, playing bridge, and was a devoted member of the First Christian Church of Platte City. Barbara was also a member of G.F.W.C., Platte City Study Club, and the Platte Valley Bank Prime 55 Club. She was preceded in death by her husband Wilson; her parents; her sister Janet Tapley, and her brother William Gunn. Barbara is survived by her nieces Barbara Melton of Joplin, MO, Brenna Nichols of Arveda, CO, nephew Dale Tapley of Galena, MO; sister in law Sharon Bryan of Platte City; lifelong friends Tom and Myra Devlin, and their sons Tommy and Tim, all of Wichita, KS; friend and caregiver Bernadette Arnold of Platte City; and numerous nieces and nephews on the Bryan side of the family. A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at the Platte City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be given to the First Christian Church of Platte City.
