Obituary for Ronald Francis Porter

Ronald Francis Porter, 86, of Platte City, MO left this world to live forever with our Heavenly Father on Saturday, January 22, 2022, after losing the battle with the Omicron Covid variant. Ron was a lifelong resident of Platte County, MO. He graduated from Park Hill High School and worked a variety of jobs as a young family man. Ron had talents and interests that were vast and varied! He eventually found a permanent home at TWA Airlines where he enjoyed unlimited travel while still doing cement work. He worked at Crown Center with his dad and uncle so when you see the waterfall area, you are seeing some of his work!
Ron had a strong faith in GOD and loved spending time with his family whether playing board games such as Aggravation, or taking the grandkids to the lake, he was just the kind of person who drew people in. He never lost his love for life and winter was his favorite season so it is fitting he went home in January. He was a member of the Platte City United Methodist Church and maintained friendships from high school and his places of employment. Ron served his community for many years as a City Councilman and a member of the Parks and Rec Board. In his younger years, he was an avid hunter. He loved to tramp in the woods scouting for mushrooms and enjoyed working his dogs to hunt quail. The year he went deer hunting and got a buck was special for him! Ron was MR FIX-IT and could work magic on anything! His youngest granddaughter once bought a non-working toy cash register at a garage sale, saying "Granddad can FIX this!" He did - and it is still working today!
A story Ron loved to tell is the time he played poker in Las Vegas, with comedian Redd Foxx. Redd dismissed his security team, saying "Ron, will take care of me. " And that was Ron - he took care of so many people. Not in the traditional warm/fuzzy way but more in a strong, take-charge way!. He showed up when it mattered, he had your back, and would defend and stand up for his loved ones without fail, although you might get a lecture OR TWO along the way!
There is so much more we could say about this LARGER than life man - he was definitely our rock and will be missed more than words can express!
He was preceded in death by his parents Francis Porter, and Edna "Emmiliene" Whitton Porter, and his brother, Glen. Ron's oldest daughter, Rhonda and step-son Dave also preceded him. He is survived by his wife, Joan of the home. Daughters, Paige Smith and Penny Porter. Step-sons, Dale (Jewel), Dr. Don (Robin) Knudson. Grandkids: Logan, Lee and Laine Smith. Ami Lou Brosoto, Drew (Meagan), Jeremy (Ariana). Wesley and Dixie Knudson. Janelle (Jaben) Carter. Ron had the pleasure to meet 8 Great Grandkids! He leaves behind other beloved family members and tons of friends! When GOD made Ron Porter, he broke the mold!
A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 28, 2022 at the Platte City United Methodist Church at 11:30 am, with a visitation one hour prior. Private interment at Hampton Cemetery in Platte City, MO. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be given to St. Jude Children’s Hospitals.
