Obituary for John Michael Weir

John Michael Weir, 48, of Platte City Missouri, was tragically taken from his family and friends on September 9th 2022. He was born on January 28th 1974 in Independence, MO to Nancy (Parla) Sallee and John L. Sallee. In 1983 John was adopted by his stepfather John R. Weir. By far this was one of the happiest days of John Michael's life!
He met and married his loving wife of 20 years Laura (Burge) Weir. They were blessed to have four children, Austin Acord, Cheyenne Weir, Denver Weir, and Carson Weir all at the home in Platte City. He also leaves behind his mother Nancy (Valentine) Lemos of Satellite Beach FL, his father John R. Weir of Lathrop MO, and John L. Sallee of Blue Springs MO. His brother’s Steven (Yenny) Passanante of Melbourne FL, and Wayne (Maria) Marble of Blue Springs MO. His sister’s Stacy May of Houston TX, Elizabeth Pierson of Lathrop MO, Amy Pope of Sunrise Beach MO, and Tina Weir of Atchison KS.
Nieces Malena (Terry) Peal, Darlene (Mackenzie) Hennrich, Farah Passanante, and Haley Burge. Nephews Gary Allan Hennrich and Hunter Burge and six great nephews and two great nieces. His father and mother-in-law Gary and Carole Burge of Platte City and brother and sister-in-law Kevin and Tracy Burge of Platte city. He also leaves behind his aunts and uncles and several cousins. John was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Tony and Dora Parla of Raytown MO and his paternal grandparents Harold and Norma Sallee of Blue Springs MO. His Aunt Patricia Kibler and Uncle George Kibler of Independence MO. At the time of his death John was working for Union Pacific Railroad as a mechanic. Laura and John met while country dancing at Denim and Diamonds and started their journey in 2001 marring on April 6th 2002. For 17 years neither John or Laura could remember the anniversary date and days after the anniversary when they would get a card from either of their mothers that is when they would say “Oh hey Happy Anniversary”. John was the fix it guy if something was broken most of the time he could fix it (his specialty was toys). If he borrowed a tool or piece of equipment it would come back to the person in better shape than when he used it. He was a helpful guy who liked to work on things if someone needed something fixed. He would stop what he was doing to help others and put his own projects on hold. There is a cabinet in my basement that has been there since February still not put together. John was an animal lover, and would bring home pets on a whim. Over the course of married life the animals have been – a Bull, 8 Lambs, 2 Sugar Gliders, 1 bearded dragon, 3 horses, 2 ferrets, 2 tortoises, 1 guinea pig, 1 hybrid snake, and many wonderful dogs, and cats. John was not one to sit around and do nothing if he wasn’t working on something he was cleaning. He enjoyed being outside and would do anything to be tinkering with something in the garage or the yard. John’s loves have always been his blood family and his chosen family, fast cars/trucks and motorcycles. While the accident was tragic he would want everyone to get out and ride using which ever kind of wind therapy they enjoy. John and Laura would randomly take a ride turning the music up just to feel the wind; it is great for the mind body and soul. A private family service will be held, followed by cremation. A celebration of life will be planned in the near future; please visit John’s webpage for scheduling, when available. Memorial contributions can be given to American Legion in John’s memory.
