Marlin “Lee” Charles Legault, 92, passed away Sunday, March 12, 2023, at his home in Platte City, MO. Marlin was born August 14, 1930, in Chateaugay, New York to Marlin Charles Perry and Irene Anna (Rivers). In 1961 he was legally adopted by Frederick Clifford Legault of Malone, NY. He was raised in Chateaugay and joined the military at the age of 16. Marlin began his Air Force training in Texas, and was stationed in Colorado, and then at Ellsworth AFB in Rapid City, South Dakota, where he met and married Frances Jane Fischer. He was later stationed at various air force bases including Tinker AFB in Oklahoma City, OK; Elmendorf AFB in Anchorage, AK; Chanute AFB in Rantoul, IL; Keesler AFB in Biloxi, MS; Brookley AB in Mobile, AL; and Clark AB in the Philippine Islands, where he served in the Flight Checker’s Squadron, working as an equipment technician, installing and testing radar systems. Marlin’s service included the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War; and he retired from military duty in 1972. After his military retirement, he started working in the same field of expertise for Wilcox Electronics, which brought him to the Kansas City area in 1975. Marlin had a passion for magic and was a lifetime member of the Brotherhood of Magicians. He provided entertainment at many benefits shows, and entertained troops at USO shows. Marlin was awarded the Taps & Blue Award, which led to a live appearance on the Ed Sullivan T.V. Show; he also received an award from the USAF Flight Checker’s for 30 years of continuous entertainment. Marlin continued throughout his life tinkering with electronics and computers and enjoyed various woodcarving projects. Marlin was a faithful member of the Twelve Apostles Catholic Church in Platte City, and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the American Legion in Parkville, MO, and a member of the Platte City V.F.W. where he served as Commander, providing military honor guards. He was active in facilitating and fundraising the Veteran’s Memorial at the courthouse in Platte City. Some additional achievements Marlin was proud of includes obtaining a bachelor's degree in business; his dream of visiting the Korean and Vietnam Memorials in DC that was awarded through the Honor Flight Network of Kansas City; he was the first elected Mayor for the City of Crystal Lakes, MO. Marlin was dedicated to volunteering in the communities where he lived and was very active with helping to establish the Twelve Apostles Parish. Marlin was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra; and 2 sons David and Darrell. He is survived by his wife, Frances; his children Doreen (Sheldon), Darleen, Marlin D., Donald, Gregory, Dawn (Dwayne), and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. A visitation and rosary will be held 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Friday, March 17, 2023, at the Twelve Apostles Catholic Church. A funeral mass will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 18, 2023, at Twelve Apostles Catholic Church; with interment with military honors to follow at the Terrace Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be given to the Twelve Apostles Catholic Church of Platte City.
