Obituary for Earl Martin "Smarts" Manley

Earl Martin “Smarts” Manley, 75, passed away Friday, March 17, 2023 at his home in Weston, MO. Martin was born January 10, 1948 in Kansas City, KS to Earl William and Nellie Anna (Large) Manley. He was a 1966 graduate of the West Platte R-II High School in Weston. He was later drafted by the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict; and served as a radio operator. Upon returning home, Martin began working as a heavy equipment operator for K & S Construction of Parkville, MO. He later worked as an electrician at Fort Leavenworth; finally working full time at Munson Hospital, retiring around 2017. Martin was a former member of the Masonic Lodge A.F. & A.M. #53, and Moila Shriners. He loved to play golf with his friends, and was an avid K.C. Chiefs fan, and had season tickets for many years. Martin was preceded in death by his parents; and his first wife, Cathy Willis Manley. He is survived by his daughter, Virginia Lewis; his sister Donna Hartfelder; his brother Bill (Lisa) Manley; his former wife, Dawn Newberry; his nieces, Madison and Carrie; his nephews Ryan and Aaron; and his 3 granddaughters, Sage, Ivy, and Bella. Following cremation with a private inurnment in Graceland Cemetery in Weston, there will be a memorial service to be announced at a later date. Memorial contributions can be given to the Wounded Warrior Project.
