James (Jim) E McGowen 84 of Liberty Missouri passed away May 21, 2023, at the St Luke’s Hospice House Kansas City Missouri. James was born May 6, 1939, to Marvin and Josie McGowen. James lived most of his life in Platte City and in later years married Karen and moved to Liberty where he and Karen shared a home. James retired from the Archer Daniels Milling Company after 40 years. Retirement life did not suit James, so he spent another 16 years at the Liberty School District in the maintenance department. James enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, trips to the lake, outdoor activities, Price is Right TV show and meeting with his group of friends for the late breakfast gatherings at Mom and Pops in Claycomo. Jim will always be remembered for his last words – whether he was talking to you on the phone or just visiting – last words were always; I love you. James was proceeded in death by his parents and wife Karen. James had 5 children: daughters Janette Benson (Platte City Missouri), Danette Wilhelm (Princeton Missouri), Johnny Elmore (Kansas City Missouri), Terry McGowen (Alaska), Shelby McGowen (Kansas City Missouri). James was blessed with 10 grandchildren: Brandy Weigel, Tyler Benson, Cheyenne Kuckleman, Wes Elmore, Sara Martin, Christopher McGowen, Patrick McGowen, Martin Tuller, Kylar McGowen, and Kyli McGowen and several great grandchildren. He will be missed. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the St Luke’s Hospice. A visitation will be held 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 25, 2023, at Rollins Funeral Home in Platte City; followed by an 11:00 a.m. funeral service. Interment will follow at the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Weston, MO.
