Obituary for Douglas C. Kelley

Douglas C. Kelley, 84, passed away on December 3, 2013 at the Leavenworth V. A. Hospital, Leavenworth, KS. He was born September 28, 1929, in Rushville, MO to Arvin C. Kelley and Eudena (Garton) Kelley. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Robert D. Kelley and Billy Dale Kelley, Sr., niece, Kimberly Kelley and nephew, Thomas Kelley. Douglas grew up on the farm and attended Valley Forest Grade School and graduated from Weston High School in 1948. In 1950, he enlisted in the Navy and served on the U.S.S. Comstock LSD – 19, in and around French Indo China during the Korean Conflict. He was a radarman and, later, was stationed for 18 months on the Island of Guam before returning home in 1954. Douglas returned and continued farming with his parents and, later for himself. He loved all sports, especially baseball, and was an avid fan of the Cardinals since the 1950’s. He enjoyed all his family, especially his nieces and nephews. Douglas is survived by his adopted son, Douglas Dwayne of McLouth, KS, and a sister, Shirley Morrow of Parkville, MO. Special thanks to his caregiver and niece, Karel Umscheid, and his many nieces and nephews. Douglas was dearly loved by family and friends and will be remembered as a warm and caring individual. A visitation will be held 6:30 – 8:00 p.m., Thursday, December 5, 2013 at Vaughn Funeral Home in Weston, MO. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 6, at the funeral home; followed by Interment with military honors, at the Mount Bethel Cemetery in Weston.
